alien swarm is not as good as the cartoons series ben 10, alien force and ultimate alien, but in every way it outdoes the disappointing-but-better-than-its-reputation race against time. while the pace could have steadied a bit and it is lacking a bit in emotional depth particularly in the first half(though ben does develop very well), the direction is far more assured and the actors fit the parts much better and feel more comfortable.the production values are also an improvement, the photography, lighting and locations are very reasonable for a tv movie, and the effects are pretty great, especially with big chill and in the finale. the soundtrack is rousing, the script has its humorous and thought-provoking moments, the story unfolds very nicely with a strong underlying mystery and the action is well-choreographed particularly in the chase sequences.overall, a surprisingly good film and outdoes race against time in every way. 8/10 bethany cox

the film is an adaptation of the animated television series, but is not an official part of the franchise. rather than the half-hour animated tv series, this is a feature-length motion picture, and the first in a series of tv movies. like the tv series, it is an alien invasion story. ben (voiced by justin chatwin) must save the world from aliens who are destroying it. to do this he must summon alien creatures called "zoomers" to fight them.the film shares the same basic premise as the tv series: ben is a high school student, his best friend kevin (danielle fishel) is a police officer and his girlfriend gwen (kathryn newton) is the president of the student body. however, in this movie, ben is only a sophomore, kevin is a high school principal and gwen is vice president of the student body. the other characters are also different in the movie: instead of being under the control of an alien, the aliens are controlled by other humans.the film has a longer running time than the tv series.
